The area closest to downtown is known as Osborne Village, and is the centre of much recent apartment construction. Many older apartments and large older homes in the area have been condo-ized Osborne Village is the city’s bohemian heart, with a large number of students and young professionals, and also seniors who appreciate its proximity to downtown.

The community has a total of 4 outdoor rinks, 2 indoor ice arenas, 6 tennis courts, 2 indoor pools, 1 outdoor pool, 2 running tracks, and a cross-country ski area along the banks of the Red River. To the north, on the Assiniboine and Red River, you can ice skate in the wintertime. The neighbourhood is also home to the Winnipeg Winter Club and the Winnipeg Squash & Racquet Club.
